Knitting, cross-stiching, crewel, needlepoint, crochet, hand embroidery, and paper dolls were her first loves as she grew upin many time zones around the world. The first opportunity for her to put her foot to the pedal was when she was eleven.
Oh! what a thrill to take fabric, cut it up, and put it back together again and VOILA, she had made a skirt. She still smiles when I think about that moment of realization that I had completed a real article of clothing that I could wear.
Since that time, she has been hooked on sewing. She quilted in the eighties when you used sciccors, paper templates, and needle & thread with a little help from her Mother-in-Law.
Well, life has brought interesting challenges, happiness, and losses during this decade of her life. Hand sewing aka quilting took a back seat to other commitments.
You know the things you plan for and surprises that interfere with those plans no matter how organized you believe you are at the time.
Well, having left a trek to Home Depot in 2010 in this very mall, she sought to venture out and investigate her surroundings. Usually, she would not browse the mall but that was a Saturday and she was on an adventure. When lo & behold she spotted Laura’s Sewing Store and the rest is history. The friendliness of everyone at the establishment let her know she had hit pay dirt and she was hooked once more to the world of quilt making.
The classes, various retreats, Paducah, Houston, Lakeland and the camaraderie rejuvenated my interest. The love of quilting had returned with an abundant joy. Enjoy!!!!
